Our performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passion is still going ahead as planned.
It has been a difficult and unsettling week in Canterbury, but we are incredibly grateful that our wonderful choir, professional soloists and the Canterbury Camerata Orchestra are all ready to come together to make music of extraordinary depth, beauty and meaning. At times like this, Bach’s music can offer reflection, consolation and a powerful transformational experience.
All relevant government health guidance and professional advice has been carefully considered, and there is currently no policy or recommendation requiring the cancellation of events of this type. On this basis, the event will proceed as planned. However, as an additional precaution, students will no longer be taking part in the choir.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear the beautifully emotive St Matthew Passion by J. S. Bach, performed by Canterbury Cantata, Canterbury Camerata Orchestra, and outstanding professional soloists. This dramatic Passion story is told through perfectly crafted music, combining powerful recitative, impassioned choruses and deeply moving arias.
If you have never experienced this celebrated work before, we warmly encourage you to join us. There are far fewer opportunities to hear the St Matthew Passion performed live than Bach’s St John Passion, so please don’t miss out.
