Canterbury Cantata Trust 10 Year Anniversary

Canterbury Cantata Trust has been running a range of singing groups for the past 10 years. A strong focus of the charity’s work has been on Singing and Wellbeing, as exemplified by ‘Monday Music’ groups, open to anyone, that meet weekly in Canterbury and Folkestone, and are billed as a physical, psychological and spiritual workout through singing. The charity also operate a network of singing groups for people with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions across the UK and beyond. Representative members from both a selection of groups in the Kent area and from the Trust’s flagship choral groups, Amici and Cantata Choirs, gathered the Colyer-Fergusson Hall at the University of Kent to demonstrate their vibrancy and the significance that coming together to sing means in their lives.

Those of us lucky enough to have attended the event at  the University of Kent  recently were able to see some of our wonderful facilitators in action, bringing people to their feet to dance and raising the roof with the sound of voices joining Skylarks and Monday Music in song to celebrate our tenth anniversary as an organisation. Our collaboration with the PCFIT (Parkinson’s Centre for Integrated Therapy) in Canterbury was also launched in order to help raise funds for this exciting venture. Sing to Beat Parkinson’s has partnered with University of Kent and Parkinson’s Care and Support Charity to deliver a key therapeutic component to the new PCFIT centre.

The occasion was a huge success, and we received many messages of thanks and congratulations from many people, including the Vice Chancellor of the University, the CEO of Parkinson’s Care and Support, and Professor David Wilkinson, who will be running the new centre.
